Tuscany strike today: train and bus times for 14 October

Babylon Radio
Listen nowTravellers and residents in Tuscany should expect disruption on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, as a regional general strike affects trains, buses, some health services and public offices. The main transport disruption begins after the morning rush hour, but passengers should check their individual journey before leaving.
What is affected today?
The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport lists a Tuscany-wide general strike covering public and private sectors. For transport, the official timetable says:
- Regional rail: strike action from 09:01 to 17:00.
- Autolinee Toscane buses: a four-hour stoppage from 08:20 to 12:20 for drivers and other staff.
- Rail contractors: action during the second half of their work shift.
- Rail freight: action for the full work shift.
Participation can vary, so not every service will necessarily be cancelled. Delays, short-notice changes and crowded services before and after the strike window are possible.
Which services are excluded?
The official strike listing excludes air transport and staff employed by GEST, the company operating Florence’s tram network. That means Florence trams are not included in this particular stoppage, although passengers making connections should still allow extra time because buses and regional trains may be affected.
Florence Airport and Pisa Airport are also outside this strike’s air-transport action. Travellers should still check their airline and ground-transport plans, especially if they intend to reach an airport by bus or train.
Are any trains guaranteed?
Trenitalia says minimum regional services are guaranteed in Tuscany during the busiest weekday periods, from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. These are protected time bands, not a guarantee that every scheduled train will run. Trenitalia publishes the guaranteed services by train number and departure time.
If your journey falls between 09:01 and 17:00, check the Trenitalia app or website immediately before travelling. If a train is cancelled, use the operator’s official refund or rebooking process and keep any receipts for necessary additional expenses.
What about buses in Florence and elsewhere in Tuscany?
Autolinee Toscane says its four-hour stoppage runs from 08:20 to 12:20 across the regional network. The notice covers driving staff and office workers, including ticket offices. Services can resume gradually after the formal strike period, so normal frequency may take time to return.
Florence’s tram service is excluded, but city and regional bus routes may be affected. People travelling to work, medical appointments or rail stations should consider walking, the tram where suitable, or a licensed taxi, and allow extra time.
Health services and public offices
The regional action also covers public and private workers outside transport. The City of Florence has warned of possible disruption at public-facing offices while preserving legally required essential services. The Toscana Nord Ovest health authority has issued a similar notice for health services.
Emergency and legally protected essential care will continue, but routine appointments and administrative services may be delayed or rescheduled. Anyone with a hospital, clinic or municipal appointment should contact the relevant office directly before travelling.
Practical checklist for Wednesday
- Check your exact train or bus shortly before departure.
- Do not assume every service in a protected time band will operate.
- Allow extra time for connections to airports and long-distance trains.
- Contact hospitals, clinics and public offices before attending a routine appointment.
- Keep tickets and receipts if disruption forces you to change your journey.
