Shanghai JZ Festival 2026: free concerts still to come

Babylon Radio
Listen nowShanghai’s JZ Festival is already under way, and there is still time to catch its free outdoor programme. Jazz Avenue is scheduled for 24 and 25 October 2026, followed by riverside shows from 27 October to 1 November. For international residents looking for live music without booking a full festival pass, these are useful dates to keep free.
The festival began on 16 October and continues until 1 November. Its published programme brings together more than 100 musicians from over 20 countries and regions, with 146 performances and industry forums across 13 venues. Most of the activity centres on Qiantan, but not every event takes place in the same park or building.
Which JZ Festival dates are still ahead?
- Until 23 October: sunset picnic concerts at Qiantan Sports Park.
- 24 and 25 October: Jazz Avenue at New Bund Red Lane.
- 27 October to 1 November: Jazz Riverside at Qiantan Leisure Park.
- 22 October to 1 November: City-wide Jazz at several public spaces.
- 26 October to 1 November: Qiantan Jazz Talk at two music venues.
- 31 October and 1 November: the festival’s closing concert programme.
The opening Jazz Age Carnival, held from 16 to 18 October, has finished. Readers should use the remaining dates above rather than plan around that first weekend.
Jazz Avenue: a weekend introduction
New Bund Red Lane hosts Jazz Avenue on 24 and 25 October. The programme lists four stages: one large stage and three smaller ones, alongside interactive areas.
This is a sensible starting point if you want to explore the festival rather than choose a single headline concert. Pick the day that suits you, then check the performance schedule before leaving. Four stages give you options, but they do not mean every artist is playing throughout the day.
Jazz Riverside and music around Qiantan
From 27 October to 1 November, Jazz Riverside moves the focus to Qiantan Leisure Park beside the Huangpu River. It offers a different setting from an indoor concert hall, with the river behind the main stage.
City-wide Jazz is also scheduled from 22 October to 1 November. Its locations include Youcheng Park, Qiantan Central Garden and Crystal Plaza. These are separate locations, so save the venue for the particular performance you want. Do not assume that an event advertised simply as being in Qiantan is at the riverside stage.
Are all the concerts free?
Shanghai Government’s festival listing states that outdoor performances and events are free. That does not mean every indoor concert is included, or that a published listing confirms seats are still available.
The official programme overview lists bassist Victor Wooten and The Wooten Brothers at Echoland Qiantan on 31 October as part of the finale. Check the individual concert listing for its current ticket price, availability and start time before travelling.
For musicians and creative workers
Qiantan Jazz Talk runs from 26 October to 1 November at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and New Bund 31 Performing Arts Center. The programme brings together performers, educators, promoters, record labels and venue operators, as well as music fans.
If a particular discussion interests you, check its venue and session details first. The broad festival announcement does not give a complete session-by-session timetable or explain the language of each discussion.
Before you go
Start with your chosen date and venue, then check the latest organiser or venue notice for timings and any changes. For an easy outdoor visit, Jazz Avenue is the immediate weekend option; Jazz Riverside follows the next week. Keep indoor ticket arrangements separate from your plans for the free programme.
Programme information checked on 22 October 2026 against official Shanghai listings. These confirm the announced schedule, not real-time ticket availability or that every performance will proceed unchanged.
