Shanghai Children’s Book Fair 2026: discover stories, comics and illustration

Babylon Radio
Listen nowSharing a picture book can open up a new language or a conversation between generations. Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair returns from 13 to 15 November, bringing books, comics and illustration together at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre.
For families new to the city, it offers a way to explore children’s culture beyond a familiar bookshop. The fair serves publishing professionals as well as the public, so choose the public-ticket route when planning a family visit.
Find a story to share
In its 22 October announcement, the organiser says the 2026 fair will present more than 60,000 Chinese and international titles and over 200 public activities. These include creator conversations, book launches and interactive sessions.
Shanghai Comics Week adds original artwork, creator meetings, signings and animation screenings. Browse the programme for a session that suits your family’s interests, then check its language and registration arrangements. An international line-up does not mean every activity is offered in English.
See familiar tales through different eyes
The Children Plus exhibition focuses on fables and fairy tales this year. Its selection of 200 titles from around the world offers different ways of imagining stories passed between cultures and generations.
Picture books can give adults and children something to discuss even before they read every word. Look for an illustration style you enjoy, compare versions of a familiar tale, or ask a publisher about books in the languages your family uses.
Plan the practical details
The official visitor page lists opening hours of 09:30–17:30 on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November, and 09:30–16:30 on Sunday 15 November. These are Shanghai local times. The venue is Hall 1 at 1099 Guozhan Road, Pudong.
Public tickets are available through the organiser’s website. Check the current price and child-admission rules before booking rather than relying on an old promotion. Overseas visitors must bring the valid identity document matching their preregistration and complete admission checks at the Overseas Visitors Desk.
The copyright zone is reserved for professional visitors and does not admit under-18s. Families should plan around the public areas. Choose a few activities, allow time to browse and leave room for an unexpected favourite book.
