Free Randwick Eco Living Festival: repairs, toy swaps and household savings

Babylon Radio
Listen nowA free community festival at Maroubra Beach on Sunday 1 November offers a practical reason to bring more than a picnic: advice on repairing household items, cutting waste and making everyday spending go further.
Randwick City Council’s Eco Living Festival runs from 10am to 3pm at Broadarrow Reserve. For newcomers to Sydney, it is also a chance to meet local community groups without paying an entry fee.
Repair advice and useful things to bring
In its 26 October announcement, the council recommends bringing small household items needing minor repairs, a bicycle for a free 15-minute safety check and tune-up, a reusable water bottle and a tote bag.
Repair assistance is not a guarantee that every item can be fixed. The Repair Café operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the programme’s activity-booking links before leaving home, particularly if a workshop is the main reason for your visit.
Three sessions to plan around
The council’s current main-stage programme includes:
- 10:40am: household electrification and cutting power bills.
- 1pm: natural cleaning at home.
- 2:10pm: how ReLove furnishes homes for people starting over.
There are also First Nations cultural activities, gardening advice, food stalls and entertainment. Times are local Sydney time; check the official programme for changes.
A toy swap for families
The Joy of Giving toy swap runs from 10am to 1pm. The organiser asks families to bring no more than one bagful of clean toys in good condition. Keep sets together and check battery-operated toys before bringing them.
Items may be declined because of their condition or available space. Inspect anything you take home for suitability; the organiser does not guarantee exchanged items’ quality, safety or history.
Free admission does not mean you need to buy anything. Choose the advice or activity that is useful to your household, and use the official event links to check arrangements before travelling.
