Praat Nederlands Day 2026: meet people and put your Dutch into practice

Babylon Radio
Listen nowA museum visit, a city walk or a conversation over an after-work drink can turn the Dutch you have been learning into something you actually use. On Thursday 26 November, Praat Nederlands Day brings those opportunities together, inviting internationals to meet people and practise the language in everyday settings across the Netherlands.
The initiative began in Leiden in 2025 and is expanding nationally this year. Welcome centres from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to the northern Netherlands and Zeeland are taking part. As the national launch announcement explains, it is intended for a wide range of residents, including students, workers and families.

Explore Leiden with a little more Dutch
In the city where the day began, the Leiden programme gives language practice a cultural setting. An easy-Dutch tour at Museum de Lakenhal pairs conversation with the city’s art and history, while Wereldmuseum Leiden offers a tour for learners at A2 level and above.
There are options for different stages of learning: a beginner class for A0–A1 learners, an intermediate class for B1–B2, and a Walking & Talking session for A1 and above. Praat Nederlands Night welcomes all levels, making it an appealing way to finish the day by meeting other residents.
Leiden’s international centre also offers a workplace activity package, so colleagues can bring some Dutch conversation into their working day.

Walk, talk or ride a historic tram in Rotterdam
Rotterdam takes practice out into the city. Its afternoon programme includes a Walking & Talking outing from Rotterdam International Center and a historic tram ride meeting at Rotterdam Central Station. Both run from 14:00 to 16:00.
The day continues at Foodhallen Rotterdam from 18:00 to 20:00, with drinks and the chance to get to know fellow participants. The official Rotterdam programme and registration page lists the activities. Participation is free; register for at most one morning and one afternoon session, with the evening gathering open to everyone.
An evening of conversation in The Hague and Eindhoven
In The Hague, a special Welcome to The Hague gathering brings a Dutch Culture Pub Quiz and Meet & Mingle Bingo to The Fiddler, at Riviervismarkt 1. It runs from 18:00 to 20:30, with doors opening at 17:30. Snacks and drinks are included, and the organisers welcome people whose Dutch is still limited. Registration is through the event page.
Eindhoven has an after-work option too. Language institute Regina Coeli is hosting a Praat Nederlands Café at HTC 85, High Tech Campus, from 17:00. The invitation covers everyone from people trying their first Dutch words to those already comfortable with a conversation.
Find your way into the conversation
Start with the programme in your nearest participating city and choose an activity that sounds enjoyable in its own right. A shared walk, a quiz question or something you have just seen in a museum gives you a natural place to begin. For newcomers, that is the attraction: an occasion to use Dutch while getting to know both a place and the people who live there.
