Paris museum closures on 24 October: check tickets before travelling

Babylon Radio
Listen nowSeveral major Paris museums are closed on Saturday 24 October 2026 because of planned demonstrations. If you have a ticket or are planning a day out, check the venue’s latest notice before travelling.
The Louvre’s official notice confirms that the museum is closed for the day. It says all reservations for Saturday will be automatically reimbursed. Check the dated warning rather than relying on the museum’s usual opening-hours display.
Which venues are affected?
The Musée d’Orsay lists itself as closed today. The Musée national Picasso-Paris also confirms an all-day closure on 24 October because of the demonstrations.
The Paris tourist office’s dated update lists further closures, including the Musée de l’Orangerie, Grand Palais, Bourse de Commerce, Carnavalet Museum, Petit Palais, Sainte-Chapelle and Conciergerie.
Some changes cover more than Saturday. The tourist office says Art Basel Paris is closed on both 24 and 25 October, while Fondation Cartier is closed throughout the weekend. These are not a single reopening timetable for every museum.
The Art Newspaper reported on 23 October that museums were closing as a precaution ahead of the demonstrations. Do not assume that an unlisted gallery or attraction is open: check its own notice.
What to do if you have booked
- For a Louvre reservation on Saturday, the museum says reimbursement is automatic.
- For other venues, check the booking email and the venue’s refund or rescheduling information. The Louvre’s policy does not automatically apply elsewhere.
- If you booked through a tour company or ticket seller, check with that seller about your booking.
- Check your journey shortly before leaving. The tourist office lists temporary station closures and links to live transport information.
A venue closure does not mean the whole city or its transport network is shut. For another outing, check both the destination and the route rather than simply switching to the next museum on your list.
