New York libraries offer job-search help and career fairs on 4–5 November

Babylon Radio
Listen nowJobseekers in New York can get help with applications or meet employers at three library events on 4 and 5 November. The options serve different needs: personal support for immigrants in Brooklyn, a government careers fair in the Bronx and an employer fair in Hicksville on Long Island.
If you are new to the US job market, start with the kind of help you need. An adviser can help you explain your experience on a résumé, while a fair gives you a chance to ask employers about their roles and application process.
Brooklyn: one-to-one support for immigrants
Brooklyn Public Library’s Immigrant Job Support session runs on Wednesday 4 November from 11am to 1pm. It takes place in the second-floor Business and Career Center at Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza.
The service welcomes immigrants who have recently arrived as well as those who have lived in the US for years. Help covers résumés, cover letters, interview preparation and job searches. One-to-one support is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so allow time rather than expecting a booked appointment.
The Bronx: explore government careers
The NYPL New York State Opportunities in Government Career Fair takes place at Melrose Library, 910 Morris Avenue, on Wednesday 4 November, from 11am to 2.30pm.
The state listing says the fair is free for jobseekers aged 18 and over, with no library card needed. It brings together NYPL Career Services and the state departments of Labor and Civil Service. Follow the registration link on the official listing before travelling; this article does not confirm remaining places.
Hicksville: meet employers on Long Island
Hicksville Public Library hosts a job fair with the New York State Department of Labor on Thursday 5 November, from 10am to 1pm. It is in the Community Room at 169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville.
Walk-ins are welcome and registration is not required. The library asks visitors to bring several copies of their résumé. Check its event page for the employer list and any updates before setting off.
Prepare for the conversation
Bring a recent résumé and a short list of questions about the work you want. New York’s Department of Labor offers résumé and application guidance, including advice on tailoring your experience to a particular job. At a fair, ask each employer which vacancies match your background and how to apply. All times above are local New York time.
