Where can you hear free music?
Prahran Square: an afternoon of jazz, soul and Afrobeat
Free Jazz at Prahran Square runs from 1–6pm on Saturday 24 October. DJ Mz Rizk opens at 1pm and plays between acts; Melbourne Conservatorium Big Band follows at 1.30pm, Owelu Dreamhouse at 3pm, and Mandisi Dyantyis with Afrospace Interchange at 4.45pm.
The free, family-friendly programme offers a way to try several performers without buying a concert ticket. Prahran Square, on Cato Street, is wheelchair accessible.
Footscray: three venues, three overlapping sets
The final Footscray Sunday Sessions take place on 25 October: Jon Hunt’s Blue Devils at The Vic Hotel from 2–4pm, Organzola at Littlefoot Bar + Kitchen from 3–5pm, and Kaviitá at Pride of Our Footscray from 4–6pm.
All three performances are free, but access differs. The Vic Hotel and Littlefoot are wheelchair accessible; Pride of Our Footscray is not. Check each venue’s admission conditions rather than assuming every session is suitable for children.
Which ticketed concert is still ahead?
Aziza at Hamer Hall
Aziza performs at Hamer Hall on Sunday 25 October at 6pm. Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke and Eric Harland reunite for the project’s tenth-anniversary concert. Listed tickets cost A$79–139 through the linked external seller; additional fees may apply.
Hamer Hall has wheelchair access and accessible toilets. Children under 15 must attend with an adult over 18.
What can younger children do?
Inside Out: Jump, Jive, Jazz continues at ArtPlay from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, 10.30am–12.30pm daily. The opening session on 22 October has finished. The free sessions combine music and creative play for children aged 2–7 accompanied by an adult.
No booking is required, although families may need to wait when the venue reaches capacity. The space is dimly lit, and these sessions cannot accommodate facilitated groups. ArtPlay has wheelchair access and accessible toilets.
What should you check before going?
Programme changes matter: Dee Dee Bridgewater’s concert on 24 October and artist conversation on 23 October have been cancelled. The festival also lists Sachém: Strangers Again on 22 October as cancelled. Use the current official programme, not an older saved itinerary.
The festival charges A$5.50 including GST per transaction, not per ticket, for bookings through its website or telephone box office. External sellers set their own fees. Check ticket availability, venue access and any weather-related changes immediately before travelling.
