Hanze students: register for Groningen housing before 4 November reservations

Incoming Hanze University of Applied Sciences students planning a spring move to Groningen have two housing dates to keep separate: registering with SSH and reserving a room.

The university’s housing page lists registration opening on 28 October 2026 at 10am and reservations from Wednesday 4 November at 10am. These are Dutch local times. Registration is not a room guarantee.

Prepare before reservations open

Hanze says its housing manager must confirm that you are a new student who is accepted or provisionally accepted before you can book. That check can take several days, so do not leave it until the reservation window opens. Follow the SSH link on the university’s page and check the requirements for your own student category.

The university reserves a limited supply of SSH rooms and says around a quarter of incoming students can reserve one each year. Keep looking through other reputable providers rather than relying on one application. Ask the university’s housing team if your eligibility or approval is unclear.

Exchange admission is a separate process

Hanze’s exchange application information lists 1 November as the spring application deadline. Students must first be nominated by their home university. A nomination alone is not acceptance, and housing registration does not replace the academic application. The published spring semester starts on 8 February 2027.

Do not let a deadline rush you into a scam

For private rentals, the Rent Support Center Groningen’s guidance recommends viewing the property yourself or asking someone to attend for you. Be wary of demands for money before a viewing, pressure to decide immediately and requests to pay a supposed lawyer abroad.

The centre offers a free contract check if you suspect something is wrong. Use that help before paying an unverified landlord. A housing deadline should not replace checks on the property, the person offering it and the agreement.
