China Mid-Autumn and National Day Holidays 2026: Dates and Make-Up Workdays

China has two major public-holiday periods coming up within days of each other. The Mid-Autumn Festival break runs from Friday 25 September to Sunday 27 September 2026. The National Day holiday runs from Thursday 1 October to Wednesday 7 October.

What are the 2026 dates?

• Mid-Autumn Festival: 25-27 September, three days
• National Day holiday: 1-7 October, seven days

There are no shifted workdays for the Mid-Autumn Festival break.

Which weekends become workdays?

For the National Day arrangement, Sunday 20 September and Saturday 10 October are working days.

This make-up workday system can surprise newcomers because a weekend day may become a normal work or school day in exchange for a longer public-holiday block.

What should newcomers plan for?

Expect busy trains, airports, tourist attractions and intercity roads around both breaks. Book long-distance tickets early and check your employer or school calendar so you do not miss a shifted workday.

Government and consular offices may also close or change hours during public holidays.
