Belgium non-resident tax return 2026: 20 November filing deadline

Babylon Radio
Listen nowBelgium’s 2026 non-resident income-tax return is now open, with an online filing deadline of 20 November 2026. The Belgian Federal Public Service Finance says people who want an appointment with an official to help complete the return must book by 6 November 2026. No extension to the filing deadline is available.
The return covers income received in 2025 and is relevant to people who live outside Belgium but still have certain Belgian-source income, including some salaries, pensions and rental income. Whether Belgium can tax a particular item may depend on the double-tax treaty between Belgium and the country where you live.
What are the key Belgium non-resident tax deadlines for 2026?
- 3 September to 20 November 2026: online filing period for the 2026 non-resident return.
- 6 November 2026: last day to make an appointment for help from FPS Finance staff.
- 20 November 2026: final filing deadline.
FPS Finance says paper forms and information letters are being sent between early September and early October 2026.
Who may need to file a Belgian non-resident tax return?
Belgium’s tax authority says a non-resident return can apply if you live abroad, or are in Belgium only for a limited period, and have income from a Belgian source. Examples include Belgian employment income, a pension or rental income.
The important point is that receiving Belgian-source income does not automatically mean Belgium may tax every euro of it. A double-tax treaty can decide which country has taxing rights. FPS Finance says that if the relevant treaty allows Belgium to tax the income, a non-resident return is required. If Belgium has no taxing right under the treaty, a return may not be required even if one was sent to you.
If your situation is unclear, use the official guidance or contact FPS Finance rather than relying on a general rule. This article explains the filing process and deadlines, not individual tax advice.
How do you file the 2026 return?
The quickest route is online through MyMinfin. FPS Finance says information from Belgian tax slips is normally pre-filled in the online return.
Non-residents should also pay particular attention to the sections on personal details, Belgian social-security status and foreign income. The tax authority strongly recommends attaching the tax assessment from your country of residence where available because it can help speed up processing.
What if you have not received a paper form?
Not everyone receives a full paper return. FPS Finance says some taxpayers receive only an information letter, including through eBox. If you had Belgian-source income and think you need to file, do not assume that the absence of a paper form removes the obligation.
People who need a paper return can contact the competent Belgian tax office, but online filing is generally the simplest option.
Can you ask for an extension beyond 20 November?
No. FPS Finance states that an additional filing period cannot be requested for the 2026 non-resident return. If a return is late, the authority advises filing it as soon as possible.
A late or missing return can lead to a fine, a tax increase or an assessment based on information already held by the administration. The authority says individual circumstances are taken into account.
What should internationally mobile workers and former Belgian residents do now?
- Check whether you received a return or information letter by post or in eBox.
- Confirm whether Belgium has taxing rights over your Belgian-source income under the relevant treaty.
- Log in to MyMinfin and review the pre-filled information.
- If you want help from an FPS Finance employee, arrange it before 6 November.
- Submit the return no later than 20 November 2026.
