Asian Games Tokyo equestrian schedule changes for 22 September 2026

Heavy rain has changed the Asian Games equestrian programme in Tokyo. The eventing dressage session that had been due on Monday 21 September has moved to Tuesday 22 September 2026, while the cross-country session on 22 September has been pushed into the afternoon. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says the 21 September equestrian session is eligible for a refund.

What changed in the Tokyo Asian Games equestrian schedule?

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says the changes were made because heavy rain was expected to delay preparation of the riding arenas at Bajikoen in Setagaya.

The dressage session was originally scheduled for 21 September. Cross-country had originally been planned for the morning of 22 September.

Can spectators get a refund for the cancelled 21 September session?

Yes. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says the 21 September equestrian session is refund-eligible. Tickets eligible for refund cannot be used for another event or on a different day.

If you already hold a ticket for 22 September, the official update says that ticket allows you to watch both the morning dressage and afternoon cross-country sessions.

Are the Tokyo swimming sessions still going ahead?

The official Asian Games venue schedule still lists swimming at Tokyo Aquatics Centre on 21 and 22 September. On 22 September, the morning session is scheduled to start at 10:00 and the evening session at 17:00.

However, organisers warn that schedules can change. Check the official venue page again before travelling, especially while severe weather remains a risk around Tokyo and the wider Kanto region.

Where are the equestrian events being held?

The Tokyo equestrian programme is being held at Bajikoen in Setagaya Ward. Swimming and diving in Tokyo are being held at Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Koto Ward.

What should international residents and visitors do before travelling?

• Recheck the official Asian Games schedule on the morning of your event.
• Allow extra travel time if rail or road disruption continues.
• If you held a 21 September equestrian ticket, follow the official refund instructions rather than attempting to use it on 22 September.
