Afrovibes Festival Amsterdam 2026: Dates, Tickets and Four Standout Events

Afrovibes Festival runs in Amsterdam from 1 to 4 October 2026, bringing theatre, dance, spoken word, music and storytelling by artists from Africa and the African diaspora to venues including De Brakke Grond, Bijlmer Parktheater and Framer Framed. This year’s theme is Soil | Soul.

1. Triple Bill: three perspectives on identity, migration and resilience

The Triple Bill at De Brakke Grond on Saturday 3 October is probably the strongest single evening for first-time Afrovibes visitors. It brings together three solo works from artists connected with Belgium, Congo, Ghana, South Africa, the Netherlands, Ivory Coast and France.

The programme moves from Manu Garçia Mpasi’s mix of hip-hop, contemporary dance and African performance traditions, to Julia-Beth Harris’s poetry about migration and heritage, and Abdoulaye Trésor Konaté’s dance work about resilience. It runs from 19:30 to 21:35, followed by a post-show talk until 22:00.

2. iTi Ritual Studies: a free Xhosa-inspired performance

At Framer Framed, South African artist Yonela Makoba presents iTi Ritual Studies, a site-specific performance built around the Xhosa practice of iTi, an intimate tea ritual connected with remembrance of matriarchs.

Performances are scheduled for 2, 3 and 4 October from 17:00 to 19:00 at Framer Framed, Oranje-Vrijstaatkade 71. Admission is free, pay what you can, but registration is required.

3. Tula•Verse II: Sœurité at Bijlmer Parktheater

On Sunday 4 October, Tula•Verse II: Sœurité combines music theatre, dance, spoken word, cultural heritage and diaspora storytelling. The work by Vernon Chatlein explores sisterhood and resistance through an Afro-Caribbean lens.

The main performance runs from 15:00 to 16:30. Tickets are €19 standard and €16.50 for visitors aged 65+ and CJP holders, with a €1.50 online transaction fee. There are also Tambú dance and drum workshops from 13:00 to 14:00 that require advance sign-up.

4. Walk through the history of African Amsterdam

Afrovibes also includes an English-language 90-minute storytelling tour about African Amsterdammers. The walk starts and ends at De Brakke Grond and looks at people from Africa and the African diaspora who have shaped the city, including stories that are often missing from standard Amsterdam tours.

The festival lists walks on Friday 2 October from 16:30 to 18:00 and Saturday 3 October from 16:00 to 17:30. Tickets cost €25 per person. The festival page contains a stray date typo lower down, so Babylon has used the dates shown in the official 2026 programme and at the top of the event page.

Where is Afrovibes taking place in Amsterdam?

The main Amsterdam venues are De Brakke Grond at Nes 45, Framer Framed at Oranje-Vrijstaatkade 71 and Bijlmer Parktheater at Anton de Komplein 240. The official Afrovibes programme also includes University of Amsterdam events.
